FEATURED IN EDP FOOD AND DRINK AWARDS 2011
We were delighted to see some of
our friends featured in the prestigious Eastern Daily Press Food & Drink
awards this week. The ceremony was held at Holiday Inns North Norwich where
eleven awards were presented to some of Norfolk’s best known food heroes
alongside some of the brightest new lights in the county’s thriving food and

Galton Blackistone, Head Chef at
Morston Hall was recognised for his long standing contribution to the Norfolk
restaurant trade, winning the Outstanding Achievement Award; the top award of
the night beating rivals Richard Hughes from the Lavender House and Nick Mills

Roger Hickman, another star of
the Norfolk food and drink community was also given an award for the Best
Restaurant Experience of the Year for his establishment, Roger Hickman’s
Restaurant. Roger, who originally worked
at the well-remembered Adlard’s beat some fairly stiff competition from the
Beechwood Hotel and the Ingham Swan to win this award, cementing his place as
one of Norwich’s favourite restaurateurs. If you’re thinking of booking a table at this

This issue of the EDP also
featured a double page interview with Galton Blackistone where he talks about
his life working as a head chef in one of Norfolk’s best restaurants, his love
of cheese and his difficulty with soft foods like oysters (you’d be surprised)
and his favourite places to dine in Norfolk. One place Galton highly
recommended in the interview was the superb 103 Unthank Road, which he picked
for the originality of the food, claiming that menu there is both “tasty and
